The 35th anniversary of Ukraine's Independence is a day of unity, remembrance, and gratitude for freedom. The Ukrainian community of the city of Prešov together with friends from Slovakia invites everyone to join the solemn and memorable events that will take place on August 22 and 24, 2026.
The program will combine a spiritual prayer, a large-scale street march, a touching memorial action, a grand festive concert featuring famous artists, and traditional refreshments.
Event Program:
📍 Saturday, August 22
4:30 PM — Meeting of the Ukrainian community
Location: Slovak-Ukrainian Cultural Center (Janka Borodáča St. 5, Prešov).
Program includes: participant gathering, joint prayer for peace in Ukraine, and formation of the festive column.
5:00 PM — Festive Independence March
Route: Solemn march through the central streets of Prešov with the unfolding of two 5-meter Ukrainian state flags.
5:30 PM — Memory Marathon “Angels of Ukraine”
Location: Near the building of the Ukrainian General Consulate (Jarková St.).
Program includes: special exhibition of over 700 crocheted angels on a blue-yellow flag as a symbol of innocent Ukrainian children killed, ceremonial raising of the Ukrainian state flag on the consulate building, a minute of silence, and honoring the memory of fallen defenders and all victims of Russian aggression.
6:00 PM — Festive Concert
Location: O. Dukhnovich Theater (Jarková St. 77, Prešov).
On stage: modern Ukrainian songs by singer from Luhansk region Serhiy Letuchyi; large concert program by the National Honored Academic Zakarpattia Folk Choir.
8:00 PM — Ukrainian Refreshments and Photo Zone
Location: Foyer of O. Dukhnovich Theater.
Program includes: traditional Ukrainian dishes and drinks in a friendly circle, as well as a festive themed photo zone.

4:00 AM — Worldwide Prayer for Ukraine
A large prayer teleconference with representatives from over 20 countries in Europe, America, and Australia. Live online broadcast will be shown on a big screen.
