In Bratislava, at the intersection of Romanova and Osuského streets in the Petržalka district, after asphalt repairs, a new roundabout (circular intersection) has appeared, which is supposed to improve traffic safety. However, as practice shows, drivers are not yet used to the changes, leading to dangerous situations.
Outdated solution and its consequences
Previously, this intersection, located in front of the Zrkadlový háj Cultural House, was known for its unusual configuration. The main traffic direction made a sharp turn here, and the large open space misled drivers. This caused confusion, especially for those who did not often use this section, and also complicated the movement of thousands of cars and city public transport (MHD) routes.
New roundabout: hopes and reality
As part of the repair works, new asphalt was laid on the entire section, and the traffic organization was changed to a roundabout (circular intersection). This decision is intended to clearly separate traffic directions and improve safety.
Even before the works began, Dopravný podnik Bratislava (Bratislava Transport Company) tested the capacity of the new intersection using long articulated buses. The tests confirmed that MHD vehicles have enough space for safe passage and turning.
Although the new roundabout markings on the road are already visible, risky situations occur in practice. Many drivers habitually go straight instead of moving around the circle. This requires increased caution when passing through this section. To prevent going straight, the city installed a curb in the center of the roundabout.
What should drivers do?
Currently, as drivers get used to the new roundabout (circular intersection), it is important to be especially attentive and follow the updated road markings. This will help avoid accidents and ensure safe passage for all road users.
