A one-day vignette in Slovakia costs €8.10. One of the sites on the first page of Google for the Slovak vignette request asks €22.00 for the same day and honestly explains why: €8.10 state duty plus €13.90 “processing commission.” There is exactly one official seller in the country, and it does not have such a line at all.
In short:
- 2026 tariffs: €8.10 for 1 day, €10.80 for 10 days, €17.10 for 30 days, €90 for 365 days. The amounts are the same for trailers.
- Officially, the vignette is sold only by eznamka.sk — the portal of the state company Národná diaľničná spoločnosť (NDS, the operator of Slovak highways), as well as its app and physical sales points.
- In 2025, drivers paid intermediary sites over €4.5 million in service fees alone.
- Cars with Ukrainian license plates pay on general grounds from January 1, 2025: the wartime benefit was canceled.
How much does a vignette cost in Slovakia in 2026?
There are four tariffs, and none depend on mileage. The electronic vignette (diaľničná známka) is linked to the license plate: no sticker on the windshield is needed. Prices are set by government regulation No. 232/2024 Z. z., and since January 1, 2025, they have not changed.
Here is how the official amount looks next to what the intermediary asks for the same vignette. Both price lists were checked on August 6, 2026.
| Validity period | Official price | Intermediary asks | Overpayment |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 day | €8.10 | €22.00 | +€13.90 |
| 10 days | €10.80 | €25.00 | +€14.20 |
| 30 days | €17.10 | €31.00 | +€13.90 |
| 365 days | €90.00 | €120.00 | +€30.00 |
The left column is from the official price list of eznamka.sk. The right is from a live page of a reseller who appears on the first search page. Different intermediaries have different markups, but the order is the same everywhere.
Trailers of categories O1 and O2 have their own vignette at the same four prices. You only need to buy it if the technically permissible total weight of the car and trailer exceeds 3.5 tons. Below this limit, separate payment for the trailer is not required.
The one-day vignette is valid not for 24 hours but until 23:59:59 of the chosen date. Bought at 9:00 PM — three hours left.
Where to buy the vignette officially?
There are exactly three legal channels, and all three lead to one state company.
The first is the portal eznamka.sk, where you pay by card or internet banking. The second is the mobile app eZnamka, available in the App Store, Google Play, and Huawei AppGallery, accepting only cards. The third is physical sales points, where they accept both cash and card.
Points are located at gas stations, post offices, and border crossings. They are easy to recognize: the “eznamka” logo hangs at the cash register. On March 12, 2026, road workers announced that all Slovenská pošta branches in regional cities were added to this network. Sales through the post office have no additional fees — this is the wording of NDS itself.
The fourth channel does not exist. The road workers’ wording is categorical: NDS does not cooperate with any other online sales channels. Everything you see in search besides eznamka.sk, the app, and points with the logo is either resale with a markup or outright fraud.
How to distinguish the official site from an intermediary site?
There are five signs, and they can be checked in half a minute, even before entering the number.
Domain. There is exactly one official — eznamka.sk. The word “official” in the page title, the .sk zone in the name, or the phrase diaľničná známka inside the domain do not guarantee anything: intermediaries use such names because they rank well.
A separate fee line in the total. “Service fee,” “processing commission,” service fee — the official portal does not have such a line at all. €8.10 in the cart means exactly €8.10 charged.
Next, see when they show you the price. If the price appears only after you enter the number and country, it is almost always a reseller: the official portal keeps all four amounts visible.
Then scroll down the page. The intermediary whose price we checked on August 6, 2026, has a Polish company Netgo sp. z o.o. from Katowice in the footer, and next to it its own admission: “does not cooperate with state authorities.” The vignette operator in Slovakia is the joint-stock company Národná diaľničná spoločnosť, and this is written plainly on the official site.
The fifth sign — language. Here is the most unpleasant trap. The official eznamka.sk has six language versions: Slovak, English, German, Russian, Polish, and Hungarian. Ukrainian is not among them. Intermediaries put Ukrainian, and they collect Ukrainian search: in the results for “vignette Slovakia where to buy,” eight out of nine organic results turned out to be commercial resellers. The most convenient page for a Ukrainian is exactly the one that charges a commission.
Intermediation itself is legal, and NDS does not deny it. In 2025, drivers left such sites over €4.5 million in service fees alone, selling more than a million vignettes through them. The average markup is about €6 for a daily, €9 for a ten-day, €11 for a monthly, and up to €19 for an annual. Two practical inconveniences are added: it is harder to file a complaint because the document does not come directly from NDS, and personal data remain with the operator you do not know.
“We continue to urge drivers to buy road vignettes exclusively through official sales points. This way they will get a valid vignette safely and at the lowest price,” said Peter Braška, director of collection and IT at NDS.
Separate from intermediaries are ordinary scammers. On January 23, 2026, NDS warned about an anonymous page that exactly copied the official portal design. The buyer paid and received nothing — neither the vignette nor money back, but gave away their data. The site was blocked, and the same day it appeared on a new domain. The scheme is recognizable: most scam sites in Slovakia work the same way.
How to pay for a vignette online and not overpay?
On the official portal, it is eight steps and a few minutes.
- Open eznamka.sk and go to buy a vignette.
- Select the country of vehicle registration.
- Enter the license plate — EČV (evidenčné číslo vozidla, vehicle registration number) — twice, without spaces, hyphens, or any additional symbols.
- Mark what you are buying for: car or trailer.
- Choose one of the four validity periods.
- Set the start date. It can be up to 60 days ahead, and at the same time it cannot go beyond December 31 of the current year — the last day of the current edition.
- Enter email, phone optionally.
- Pay and wait for the document Potvrdenie o úhrade diaľničnej známky (confirmation of vignette payment). Payment is considered complete only at the moment of its issuance.
Is a vignette needed for a car with Ukrainian license plates?
Yes, from January 1, 2025 — on general grounds, at the same tariffs.
The benefit really existed. Law No. 92/2022 Z. z. inserted § 16h into the vignette law, which exempted vehicles and vehicle combinations registered in Ukraine from payment during the emergency declared due to the mass influx of foreigners. It applied from February 26, 2022.
It was canceled by law No. 308/2024 Z. z.: it literally says “§ 16h sa vypúšťa,” meaning “§ 16h is removed,” and this norm took effect on January 1, 2025.
The exempt categories have not disappeared: there are sixteen of them in § 7 of law No. 488/2013 Z. z. Among them are police, army, rescuers, municipal police, historic cars, and holders of parking cards for persons with disabilities; the rest are mostly state services and social institutions. Ukrainian plates are not on this list, so neither discount nor separate tariff is given by Ukrainian registration.
If the car stays in Slovakia for a long time, the owner’s next question is customs clearance and re-registration.
Confirmation did not arrive or there is a mistake in the number — what to do?
First check the vignette in the registry, and only then pay again. If confirmation did not arrive, the most likely reason according to NDS is that the payment did not go through the payment gateway, and payment must be repeated. When money is charged twice, it usually returns automatically within 2–4 business days.
A mistake in the license plate is more serious than it seems. According to § 5 ods. 4 of law No. 488/2013 Z. z., incorrectly or incompletely entered data is equated with failure to pay. One extra letter — and legally you do not have a vignette, although the money has already left your account.
Correction windows are as follows. At the cash register — 15 minutes from payment and only at the same point where you bought it; if correction is not possible, the vignette will be canceled there and money returned. Online — on the day of payment or before the start date. Later, only a written request remains.
Requests are accepted by live people at eight support points operating at Slovenská pošta branches:
| City | Support point address |
|---|---|
| Bratislava | Námestie SNP 490/35 |
| Košice | Poštová 546/20 |
| Prešov | Masarykova 2713/2 |
| Žilina | Sládkovičova 169/14 |
| Nitra | Fraňa Mojtu 4918/18B |
| Trenčín | Mierové námestie 21/21 |
| Trnava | Trojičné námestie 1468 |
| Banská Bystrica | Horná 54/1 |
The schedule is the same for all: Monday–Friday from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Saturday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. They accept requests for changing the number or country of registration, exemption from payment, data correction after purchase, and refund. The post office charges a handling fee according to its own price list. The issue can also be resolved by phone: the NDS call center number is on eznamka.sk, and the rest of the Slovakia reference phone numbers are collected separately.
How to check that the vignette is really in the registry?
eznamka.sk has a separate function “Kontrola platnosti diaľničnej známky” — checking vignette validity. Only the country of registration and license plate are needed, no registration on the site is required.
This check is the only way to be sure that the purchase through an intermediary actually reached NDS. The reseller issues its own confirmation. It proves nothing: cameras on the roads check against the central registry, not the letter that came to your mail.
Do the check twice — immediately after payment and in the morning before departure.
Where is a vignette not needed and how to check your route?
Not the entire network is paid. The current list of paid sections and the map are kept by NDS on eznamka.sk in the section about paid sections; the current map edition is dated July 1, 2026. The longest paid section in the country is D1 from Bratislava-Východ to Hričovské Podhradie, 172 km.
Motorcycles do not need a vignette at all. Vehicles over 3.5 tons pay not by vignette but through the e-myto system (electronic road toll), where the amount is calculated by kilometers, emission class, and number of axles. If you do not drive at all, we summarized prices and travel times in Slovakia — Ukraine bus routes.
Bypasses of big cities and many suburban sections are free, and transit drivers often get confused there. The fine for driving on a paid section without a vignette is €150, or €100 if paid within 15 days of delivery. The full list of free sections, appeal procedure, and exceptions are discussed in the article about fines for vignette, and other road requirements are collected in the review about driving and parking rules.
Before departure, do two things: enter your number in the check on eznamka.sk and look at the total amount in the cart. €8.10 for a day, €10.80 for ten days, €17.10 for a month, €90 for a year. Anything more than these numbers is a foreign service fee, not a road charge.
