Everyone who regularly uses public transport in Bratislava knows how important convenience and reliability are. That is why the news about the addition of three new modern electric buses to the Dopravný podnik Bratislava (DPB) (Dopravný podnik Bratislava - Bratislava Transport Company) fleet is a pleasant event for many. These zero-emission vehicles are already running on routes, including lines 53 and 75, connecting Vajnory with Trnavské mýto and Dolné Hony with Krasňany respectively.
More comfort and safety
The new electric buses are not just a step towards greener transport but also a significant improvement for passengers. They are equipped with a powerful air conditioning system that ensures a comfortable temperature inside regardless of the season. Inside, there are also modern information displays to help navigate the route and combined USB chargers so you can charge your gadgets on the go.
Special attention has been given to safety. According to DPB (Dopravný podnik Bratislava - Bratislava Transport Company) CEO Martin Rybanský, the vehicles meet the latest European safety standards. They are equipped with radar technology and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), which minimize risks on the road.
Ecological development direction
The purchase of these electric buses is part of Bratislava’s broader strategy to modernize and green urban transport. The city mayor, Matúš Vallo, noted that the share of zero-emission vehicles in the DPB (Dopravný podnik Bratislava - Bratislava Transport Company) fleet will increase to 46%. This aligns with commitments arising from the law supporting ecological vehicles. However, to achieve these goals, Bratislava and other Slovak cities need systematic support from the state budget and European funds.
DPB (Dopravný podnik Bratislava - Bratislava Transport Company) received these electric buses under a reimbursement contract with the supplier, which also includes spare parts worth a total of 3 million euros.
Large-scale fleet renewal
This year, Bratislava is actively renewing its transport fleet. Besides the three electric buses, the city has already received 18 new diesel buses, and by the end of 2026, another 126 new buses and electric buses are expected to be delivered. Also, in March 2026, DPB (Dopravný podnik Bratislava - Bratislava Transport Company) introduced the first five of ten new unidirectional trams, which are gradually being put into operation, including on line 4. These trams also offer increased comfort, including leather seats, powerful air conditioning, tinted windows, Wi-Fi, and USB ports.
All new vehicles will be based at the Krasňany Depot, where a specially trained team will take care of them. Bratislava is actively renewing its transport fleet.
