On Wednesday, October 7, an incident occurred at the Bratislava airport involving an attempt to cross the border using someone else’s documents. Officers from the border control department detained a Georgian citizen who was attempting to travel to London using a forged passport. He claimed the document was his own.
The suspect presented a Latvian passport to officers of the Police Corps Presidium. Already during the initial check, the police noticed that something was amiss with the document and suspected unauthorized tampering with its security features.
The case was immediately referred for a thorough examination as part of the so-called “second-line check.” There, specialized experts used technical equipment to definitively confirm that the presented passport had indeed been altered.
The man was detained on suspicion of committing the crime of falsifying and forging an official document, an official seal, an official stamp, an official emblem, and an official mark. Further procedural actions in this criminal proceeding are currently being carried out by a mobile unit of the Border and Foreign Police.
