The continuous service interruption will begin on Monday, September 28, 2026, at exactly 8:10 a.m. and will last until Thursday, October 1, 2026, at 4:55 p.m. According to the railway operator’s announcement, there will be no complete shutdown of all service between the two cities, but the restrictions will affect many regular trains.
Where exactly will the trains stop?
According to ŽSR spokesperson Petra Laníková, the restrictions do not mean a complete cutoff of rail service between the two regional centers. The continuous suspension will affect only the specific and critically important section between Drienovská Nová Ves, Ličartovce, and Kysak.
The main reason for the suspension is urgent technical maintenance and repairs to the tracks. These measures are intended to ensure safer and more reliable train operations in the future.
How replacement bus service will be organized
To minimize inconvenience for passengers on this busy route, the national carrier is implementing special measures:
- Some of the replacement buses will run directly from Prešov to Košice so that passengers do not have to transfer unnecessarily.
- The changes apply to both select regional express trains and standard local trains (osobný vlak) operating in this region.
