An unusual incident occurred at the Vyšné Nemecké border crossing, which ended with the successful return of the property to its owner thanks to modern technology and the prompt response of customs officials. The owner of the expensive two-wheeled vehicle received a notification on his smartphone from a mobile app indicating the exact coordinates of the stolen property.
The system alerted the man that his electric bicycle was located directly on the Slovak-Ukrainian border. Without wasting any time, the owner contacted border authorities and provided all necessary information, including photographs and frame numbers.
How the Transport of Stolen Property Was Uncovered
The customs shift supervisor immediately responded to the report and ordered an inspection of the vehicles preparing to depart. During an inspection of a minibus with Ukrainian license plates, financial administration officials discovered ten electric bicycles in the cargo compartment.
Thanks to the photos and documents provided in advance, the owner was able to identify his vehicle and immediately recognized the adjacent electric bicycle in the photos, which belonged to his wife. Both expensive electric bicycles were being prepared for illegal export outside the European Union.
Further Investigative Actions
Due to suspicions regarding the origin of the remaining vehicles found in the van, customs officials referred the case to the police. Law enforcement officers are investigating the entire supply chain and origin of the other bicycles discovered during the inspection.
This case once again demonstrates the effectiveness of trackers and integrated anti-theft systems in mobile apps, which allow law enforcement to quickly thwart attempts to smuggle stolen property abroad.
