“Avoid the area around the stadium in the evening” — this advice is given by the police to drivers who planned to pass through Tehelné pole today, August 11. The reason is simple: at 8:15 PM, a football match will start at Národný futbalový štadión (National Football Stadium).
Traffic will be restricted in two waves — before the game starts and after the final whistle, when thousands of fans will head to their cars and stops at the same time. Four streets will be affected by the restrictions:
- Bajkalská;
- Viktora Tegelhoffa;
- Príkopova;
- Kalinčiakova.
Reinforced units will be on duty at the site: road police, public order patrols, and other units of the Krajové policejné riaditeľstvo v Bratislave (Regional Police Directorate in Bratislava). They have two tasks — to let the flow of people pass without delays and to prevent both traffic jams and conflicts. As Regióny.sk citing the police writes, such measures for matches at the National Stadium are standard practice, so nothing unusual is happening.
What this means for you in practice. If you need to go to Petržalka or through the bridge on Bajkalská tonight, allow an extra 20-30 minutes or take a detour. The most convenient alternatives are via Gagarinova from the Ružinov side or the D1/D2 ring road, if your route allows it. Parking near the stadium without a special permit is not recommended at all today.
If, on the other hand, you are going to the match — the police advise arriving early and using public transport. Trolleybuses and buses to stops near the stadium run as usual, although after the final whistle they will obviously be crowded. Details of the restrictions are also published by the city portal Bratislavaden, which monitors police actions at major sports events in the capital.
After the match, the restrictions will be lifted as soon as the fans disperse — usually this takes about an hour.
