A man who was carrying a refrigerator on an electric scooter on the busy Bajkalská street in Bratislava was caught on police video. Now he is being searched for — the driver faces a fine for such cargo transportation.

What happened?

The Slovak police shared a video showing a man wearing a helmet carrying a large refrigerator on an electric scooter. Because of the size of the cargo, the scooter itself is almost not visible. The offender was filmed on one of the busiest main roads in Bratislava — Bajkalská street, which connects the districts of Petržalka, Ružinov, and Nové Mesto.

According to Lukáš Pecek, a representative of the Bratislava regional police department, such transportation is a traffic violation. Law enforcement wants to identify the driver to hold him accountable.

What rules were broken and what are the consequences?

Slovakia's traffic rules prohibit carrying items on a scooter that make control difficult or create danger for others. Overloading the vehicle is also not allowed.

For such a violation, the police can issue a fine of 50 euros on the spot. If the case is referred to an administrative authority, the amount can double.

From May 1, 2026, updated traffic rules with stricter penalties for dangerous driving will apply in Slovakia. And from January 1, 2026, a law amendment limits scooter speed on sidewalks to 6 km/h (walking speed) to protect pedestrians.
