Now you can travel for free from Bratislava to the nearby Austrian towns of Berg, Kittsee, Edelstal, and Prellenkirchen. Starting September 28, 2026, a pilot bus route 902 will be launched, offering three months of free rides. This is a great opportunity for Ukrainians living in Slovakia (Slovensko) to explore the neighboring country, visit relatives, go shopping, or just change the scenery without extra travel costs.
Route and Schedule
The new line 902 connects Bratislava with four Austrian communities: Berg, Kittsee, Edelstal, and Prellenkirchen. Buses depart from the Bratislava, Farského stop (boarding area F) in the Petržalka district, which is easily accessible by tram line 3 from the city center.
The route will operate:
- Monday to Saturday with a 120-minute interval (every two hours).
- On Sundays no trips are scheduled.
Approximate travel time from the Farského stop:
- Berg, Hauptstraße – 16 minutes
- Kittsee, Hauptplatz – 23 minutes
- Edelstal, Sportplatz – 33 minutes
- Prellenkirchen, Ortsmitte – 40 minutes
This line is a direct connection, which greatly simplifies travel between Bratislava and these Austrian localities.
Conditions for Free Travel and Bicycle Transport
Travel on route 902 will be free until December 31, 2026. This is a pilot project aimed at testing demand for such cross-border connections.
Please remember the following rules:
- Boarding: Passengers must enter only through the front doors of the bus.
- Informing the driver: Notify the driver of your final stop. This helps collect data on route occupancy.
- Internal travel within Austria: Line 902 also allows travel between Austrian communities on the route.
Bicycle transport: Information about bicycle transport on this route is not available from official sources.
Your Opinion Will Decide the Route's Future
As part of the pilot project, informational materials with a QR code are placed on the buses. By scanning it, you can fill out a short survey. Your feedback will help the Bratislava Integrated Transport System (IDS BK) and the organization baum_cityregion assess the feasibility of permanent operation of the route.
You can rate the route, schedule, indicate your travel purpose, express interest in further use of the line, and specify what fare you would be willing to pay.
This project is implemented in cooperation between the Bratislava Integrated Transport (BID) and baum_cityregion within the Interreg Central Europe program, which supports sustainable mobility and improved transport connections in border regions.
