The need to ensure safety and public order in Bratislava’s Nové Mesto district is increasingly calling for decisive action from local government. Therefore, the district, working closely with the city police, has stepped up surveillance in areas with the highest concentration of people.
Since the beginning of the year, more intensive patrols have focused on several key locations: the Trnava Toll Gate, the area around the New Market, the popular Kuchayda, Kukuchinova Street, and the Rachanskoe Toll Gate. The goal is not simply to demonstrate a police presence, but to actively address specific problems and prevent them.
The busiest locations and intervention statistics
The patrols pay the most attention to the Trnava Toll Station area, where city police have recorded more than 3,200 interventions or checks since the beginning of the year. The vast majority of these—more than 2,900 cases—were preventive in nature.
However, increased surveillance also covers other popular areas of the city:
- On Kukuchinova Street, police patrols intervened more than 1,200 times.
- Over 1,100 checks were recorded in the vicinity of the Kukhaida natural swimming area.
- Over 1,100 patrols also took place at the bustling Rachansky Market.
What exactly do police officers address on the streets?
The mere presence of a person in a public place or their unfavorable social situation is not, in itself, grounds for police intervention. The decisive factors are behavior and compliance with applicable rules.
Patrols most often intervene in cases of offenses such as:
- unauthorized consumption of alcohol in public places,
- smoking in areas where it is prohibited by regulations,
- littering in public places and unauthorized dumping of trash,
- disturbances of public order and verbal or physical altercations,
- situations that directly threaten people’s health or safety.
The local government reminds residents that safety cannot be achieved through a single, isolated measure. It requires a combination of regular preventive patrols, modern video surveillance, high-quality street lighting, and the maintenance of public spaces.
How can you help, and when should you call the police?
Residents play a key role in the safety of city districts. If you witness a crime, a conflict, property damage, or a situation where someone is in danger, the city district advises against reporting it via social media and instead recommends immediately contacting the city police by dialing 159. While a post online may draw attention to the problem, only an official report will dispatch a physical patrol to the scene.
