An unexpected evening company was recorded by the famous Slovak actor Vlado Kobielsky, who recently settled in a new villa near Bôrik. The herd calmly moved through the streets, once again reminding about a problem that has long gone beyond the outskirts and forest parks. Such incidents in the city are becoming regular, and encounters with wild animals pose a real danger to pedestrians.
Why wild animals go to the city center
Wild boars come to residential neighborhoods, especially in Staré Mesto (Old Town), Nové Mesto (New Town), Karlova Ves, or Rača, for several reasons. In the nearby Malé Karpaty (Little Carpathians), the animals have no natural enemies, and mild winters and an excess of food contribute to their active reproduction.
In addition, neglected areas, vineyards, and open waste containers attract herds directly to human dwellings. Because of this, wild animals are increasingly noticed at stops, near residential complexes, or even on tram tracks.
Danger to residents and real incidents
Such walks do not always end only with funny videos on social networks. In autumn and summer, many cases are registered when the threat becomes physical. For example, on Veternicová street, a man encountered a female with thirteen piglets and suffered a shoulder injury, after which he ended up at the emergency room. Adult individuals, who protect their offspring, or frightened animals overwhelmed by city noise, pose particular danger.
How city services respond
Due to mass complaints from residents, authorities try to solve the problem at the institutional level. In particular, the district office, based on requests, allowed city forests to conduct regulated animal trapping on non-public territories, and special residential cages for safe trapping are being prepared. However, experts emphasize that there is no quick solution, and the situation requires a comprehensive approach.
How to act when meeting a boar in the city
If you notice a wild animal on the street or near your house, follow basic safety rules:
Under no circumstances approach the herd, do not try to photograph them from close range or scare them with shouting.
Do not throw objects at them and do not try to run across the road right in front of them.
If you are walking with a dog, immediately take it on a short leash, as the dog may provoke aggression from the animals.
Avoid the dangerous area by another route or wait at a safe distance until the animals leave.
In case of real danger or threat to life, immediately call the city police at 159 or the general emergency services line.
