The start of the week in eastern Slovakia brought a sudden change in the weather and quite a bit of surprise. A brief but extremely intense thunderstorm swept through Košice and the surrounding villages during the day. The heavy downpour was accompanied by hail, which in some areas formed a solid white layer. Due to the storm, the streets resembled winter landscapes, and drivers faced difficulties on the roads.
The Aftermath of the Storm in the East of the Country
Locations such as Čečejovce and the Košice district of Šaca were hit hardest by the storm. According to local residents, the hailstones were several centimeters in diameter. In addition to the heavy hail, the region was hit by gusty winds. In Košice itself, the winds snapped trees and knocked over parked motorcycles on some streets. What to Expect from the Weather in the Coming Days
The dynamic weather pattern will continue on Tuesday. Forecasters are again predicting waves of precipitation, rain, and localized thunderstorms—primarily in northern and eastern Slovakia—during which further hailstorms cannot be ruled out. In some areas of the Tatra Mountains, there may even be light snowfall.
At the same time, weather models indicate that after a brief cold snap, the country will experience a sharp change in temperature. As the weekend approaches and at the turn of September and October, the influx of warm air will significantly intensify. In the warmest regions, temperatures may approach 30 degrees Celsius, bringing an unexpectedly warm start to fall to Slovakia.
