Since August 26, 2026, ticket inspectors on Bratislava public transit (Dopravný podnik Bratislava, DPB) have been checking tickets while wearing body cameras. This measure was implemented for the safety of both passengers and inspectors, and most importantly, to provide objective evidence in the event of a dispute. The idea is to put an end to “he-said, she-said” arguments.
Why were the cameras introduced?
The DPB says this will make the inspection process more transparent. If you file an official complaint, the camera footage will serve as evidence and help avoid misunderstandings. In general, body cameras are nothing new in Slovakia: they’re already used by the municipal police in some cities and by the railway company (Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko) on trains.
How is privacy protected?
All recordings are stored on encrypted servers. Only specially authorized employees have access to the video footage, and only if someone has filed a formal complaint. If no complaint is filed within 15 days, the recording is permanently deleted.
This is similar to how cameras already record other violations in Slovakia. For example, when a driver is talking on the phone while driving or isn’t wearing a seatbelt. In those cases, a camera equipped with artificial intelligence first detects the violation, and then a police officer reviews the footage.
