On Thursday, August 27, 2026, in the very heart of Bratislava, at the intersection of Vysoká and Poštová streets, the first two-story Lidl store in Slovakia opened. This event was significant as it is the 185th store of the chain in the country and the 25th in the capital, demonstrating the retailer's adaptation to the urban environment and consumer needs.

The new store is located in the premises of the former Panta Rhei bookstore and offers customers a modern “metropolitan concept.” On an area of 1078 square meters, there are escalators, two elevators (one of which connects the underground parking directly with the sales floor), and underground parking.

What is special about the new Lidl?

Besides the two-story format, which is unique for Lidl in Slovakia, the store on Vysoká offers a number of innovative solutions. This allowed placing the full range of products in the densely built city center where space is limited. Special attention was paid to customer convenience: thoughtful design, clear navigation, a fresh products zone near the entrance with smart scales, and an in-house bakery providing fresh baked goods throughout the day.

Social responsibility and concerns

On the occasion of the opening, Lidl launched a social project “Lidl otvára – školám pomáha” (Lidl opens – helps schools), under which 1 euro from every receipt over 10 euros made on the first day of operation will be directed to support local schools. The store will also support the charity organization Dom u kapucínov by providing food assistance.

However, on social media, there are concerns that the new store may face the same problems as the branch on Kamenné námestie, where, according to users, suspicious individuals often gather.

Details for visitors:

Address: Vysoká / Poštová, Bratislava.

  • Parking: Underground, with time limits on parking.

This new Lidl is part of the company’s strategy to adapt to the urban environment and offers a modern shopping experience.
