On Sunday morning, passengers of Wizz Air flight W67001, which departed from Bratislava (Bratislava city) to Košice (Košice city), experienced an unexpected return to the departure airport. Shortly after takeoff, the plane collided with a bird, forcing the pilots to decide to return for a mandatory technical inspection.

Wizz Air representatives confirmed the incident, emphasizing that passenger and crew safety is the highest priority. After the collision, the plane had to be thoroughly checked to ensure there was no damage.

This case happened just a few days after another unusual situation related to a flight between Košice (Košice city) and Bratislava (Bratislava city). On Thursday, flight W67004 could not land in Bratislava (Bratislava city) due to a powerful supercell storm and had to land in Budapest. The crew waited for weather conditions to improve over the Slovak capital, but strong wind, rain, and hail made safe landing impossible. The usual 40-minute trip then stretched to two hours.

It is worth noting that in 2026, Wizz Air increased the number of flights on the domestic route Bratislava (Bratislava city) – Košice (Košice city) from 9 to 13 times per week, responding to high passenger demand. This connection significantly reduces travel time between western and eastern Slovakia, supporting business trips, family visits, and tourist travel.

What should passengers do in case of flight delay or cancellation?

If your Wizz Air flight is delayed or canceled, it is important to know your rights. The airline is obliged to inform passengers about changes and offer options for rebooking or refunds. In case of a significant delay or cancellation due to circumstances under the airline's control (for example, technical faults not related to unforeseen events), you may be entitled to compensation.

  • Keep all receipts: If you have to buy food, water, or other necessary items during the delay, keep the receipts. The airline may be required to reimburse these expenses.
  • Follow updates: Check the official Wizz Air website or mobile app for current information about your flight. The airline should also send notifications to the email and phone number provided during booking.
  • Contact airline representatives: At the check-in desk or through customer support, you can learn about available rebooking options or get assistance.

Incidents like bird strikes or bad weather are part of aviation reality, but airlines have clear protocols to ensure passenger safety.
