Two tragic deaths and one serious injury—that was the outcome of the attack that took place on September 29, 2026, at an elementary school in the Slovak village of Staškov. New developments have now emerged in the case: the mother of a 13-year-old student suspected of carrying out the attack has been taken into custody. She is accused of making death threats against the school principal.
According to Slovak media reports, police detained the woman after she allegedly threatened the school principal’s life. This is not the first time the boy’s parents have had run-ins with the law. The mother had previously been prosecuted for drug-related crimes, and the father was released from prison about a year ago, where he had been serving a sentence for property and drug offenses. As a result, the boy had been in the care of his grandparents for several years.
The 13-year-old attacker himself is currently in the psychiatric ward of a hospital in Martin. As a reminder, during the incident at the school, 61-year-old teacher Božena Mariaková was killed, as was 13-year-old student Nelka, who died in the hospital 57 hours after the attack. Another teacher sustained serious injuries, but her life is not in danger. Police are continuing their investigation as a particularly serious crime of intentional homicide.
