If you are looking for a free appointment to register or extend dočasné útočisko (temporary protection) in Slovakia, it is important to know when the migration police booking system updates. According to observations and checks by the League for Human Rights, there are certain patterns that will help you plan your visit.
For initial registration of temporary protection or its extension, new appointments appear according to the following schedule (time is Slovak):
Snina: from Sunday to Thursday, starting at 20:15, every 20 minutes, approximately until 23:15. The appointment date will be on the 22nd day after booking.
All migration police branches (except Snina): every Wednesday, starting at 14:45, every 20 minutes, approximately until 18:15. The appointment date is also on the 22nd day after booking. It is important to note that on Wednesday evening the schedule for Snina continues to operate in parallel.
If you are looking for an appointment to switch from temporary protection to a residence permit (VNZ) (residence permit), from July 15, 2026, a simplified procedure applies. For this, you need to book in advance through the reservation system of the Ministry of the Interior of Slovakia, selecting the section "DOČASNÉ ÚTOČISKO" and the service "ŽIADOSŤ O VYDANIE DOKLADU DOČASNÉ ÚTOČISKO/PRECHOD Z DOČASNÉHO ÚTOČISKA NA POBYT".
Issuance of the temporary protection document (plastic card) and transition to VNZ (residence permit)
To receive the plastic card for temporary protection or to transition to VNZ, the following rules apply:
Snina: appointments are usually available at various times and dates.
All other migration police branches: every Wednesday, from 17:45, every 20 minutes, approximately until 21:15. The appointment date will be on the 22nd day after booking.
"Cancelled" appointments
Appointments canceled by other people may appear in the system at any time — day or night, irregularly and without a fixed time. Therefore, it is worth checking the system periodically if you cannot find a free slot according to the main schedule.
Important nuances and official information
Please note that this information is based on observations and practical checks of the booking system and is not the official schedule of the migration police. Rules may change.
As of August 24, 2026, temporary protection in Slovakia is valid until March 4, 2027. If you already have this status, it is automatically extended until this date, and no additional actions are required from you.
The migration police booking system underwent significant changes in 2025 and 2026. In particular, services were divided into authorized (for holders of VNZ (residence permit) or PMZ (permanent residence permit)) and unauthorized (for those without VNZ, including temporary protection). Authorized services are available 60 days in advance and require a BOK code for access, while unauthorized services are available 40 days in advance without authorization. The system also limits one booking per 15 days per person to prevent reselling of appointments.
