Early on Saturday morning, August 15, the old Citroën had a roof, supporting pillars, and normal windows. By noon, it was already driving around Bratislava without all of this — and it met a police patrol.
The crew of the Regional Road Inspectorate stopped the amazing car on Rybničná street in the Vajnory district. The owner cut off the roof, removed parts of the body’s supporting pillars, and self-made the windows, reported Bratislavský večerník.
The police reacted without hesitation. Further movement was prohibited on the spot, the driver’s license plates and vehicle registration certificate were confiscated, and the violation was decided in blokové konanie (block procedure) — a simplified administrative process with a fine imposed immediately by the patrol.
Why so strict if this is “just” tuning? The body pillars are a supporting part of the car: they hold the roof and protect people inside in case of a rollover. By removing them, the driver turned the car into a trap — in an accident, the body would collapse on the passengers’ heads. The police emphasized that such interventions sharply worsen the technical condition of the vehicle and threaten the safety of both those inside and other road users.
In one of the photos published by the police, the car shows a sign hinting at participation in the old car festival Vrakmania — where such “customs” look appropriate. The only problem is that the owner decided to drive to the weekend on his own, on regular streets. And on public roads, the car must comply with the approved construction, otherwise unauthorized tuning results in fines and a ban on operation.
So if you think about “improving” your own car in Slovakia — any construction changes require official approval and entry into the technical passport. Without this, the first patrol will end your trip for you.
