On Sunday, October 4, 2026, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Bratislava’s emergency services received a call to the Danube Port. Vegetation caught fire on Pristaná Street, and the flames spread to a garden shed located right next to the cargo port.

The fire quickly spread to the grass and shrubs on neighboring lots. By the time the first Fire and Rescue Service units arrived on the scene, the building was already completely engulfed in flames. Rescuers had to work in self-contained breathing apparatus, using two water jets to bring the fire under control. After successfully containing the fire, they continued to search the area to extinguish any hidden smoldering hot spots.

A fire investigation expert also arrived at the scene. According to preliminary findings by specialists, the incident was caused by careless handling of open flames.

Despite the menacing black smoke, which frightened residents and drivers passing through this bustling industrial area, the incident resulted in no injuries. Police and emergency responders remind the public that any fire started near dry vegetation or abandoned buildings in the city can quickly get out of control during the fall.
