The Slovak police detained two people on the night of Thursday, August 20, 2026, in the Myslava district of Košice. They are suspected of damaging automatic postal terminals and stealing parcels. In the BMW car used by the offenders, law enforcement found packages that came from the damaged boxes.

The incident began around 1:30 a.m. when the police received a report about damage to parcel lockers. Although the suspects were no longer at the scene, the police found open box doors and received information about a BMW car heading toward Bukovec. The car was soon spotted. Inside were a 34-year-old driver and his 27-year-old passenger, as well as "visibly placed packages with stickers indicating a damaged parcel locker," the Košice region police reported.

During the search, at the police's request to hand over items that could have been obtained illegally, the driver took a small bag with a white crystalline substance from his wallet. According to him, it was pervitín (pervitin, a methamphetamine drug). The exact composition of the substance will be determined after examination.

The detainees were taken to the police station. A criminal case was opened against them on charges of theft committed in complicity and unauthorized possession of narcotic and psychotropic substances. In Slovakia, unauthorized handling of narcotic substances for personal use can be punished by imprisonment for up to three years, although minor cases often result in probation or community service [cite:2, "penalties for drug possession Slovakia pervitin 2026"]. The police are also checking whether this pair is involved in damaging other parcel lockers in Košice.

This case highlights the importance of vigilance and timely reporting of suspicious activities, as thefts from parcel lockers are becoming more common. More news about events in Slovakia can be found on our news page.
