On Thursday, October 29, a serious accident occurred on Highway I/59 near the Donovaly ski resort, bringing traffic to a standstill for several hours. Two trucks and one passenger car collided in the village of Staré Hory.
The accident occurred around 9:00 a.m. As a result of the collision, one of the trucks veered off the road and overturned into a stream. Despite the dramatic nature of the accident, police reported that none of those involved sustained serious injuries. The driver of the passenger car, whose dashcam captured the moment of the accident, wrote on social media: “Today I was born again.”
All emergency services arrived at the scene. The police tested the drivers for alcohol—the results were negative. Due to the accident and the investigation, Highway I/59 was completely closed, and traffic was rerouted via the Šturec mountain pass (Highway I/14). By noon, traffic had been partially restored in one lane.
The exact causes and circumstances of the accident are currently being investigated.
