Oil prices dropped after the announcement of new US sanctions against Iran, which will inevitably affect fuel prices in Slovakia.
Why is fuel getting more expensive?
Global Brent crude oil prices fell over the past week. Similarly, WTI oil prices rose to 86.99 USD. Such fluctuations in the global oil market are usually linked to geopolitical events, especially sanctions against Iran.
Slovak gas stations (АЗС) react to global changes with a delay of 1–2 weeks. Therefore, the current 6% price increase means a rise of 5–10 cents per liter. This will affect not only car owners but also food delivery costs, taxi services, and possibly even electricity prices.
What are the current prices and what to expect?
As of August 26, 2026, diesel fuel in Slovakia costs about 1.30–1.35 €/l, and gasoline costs 1.40–1.45 €/l. However, given the global trend, prices are expected to rise. According to GlobalPetrolPrices.com, the average diesel price in Slovakia from September 5, 2016, to August 17, 2026, was 1.36 euros. In Bratislava, for example, the average diesel price from May 11 to August 17, 2026, was 1.71 euros.
It is worth noting that in March 2026, Slovakia introduced a dual pricing scale for diesel fuel for cars with foreign license plates (živnosť — trade license), to prevent “fuel tourism” from neighboring countries. At that time, drivers with foreign registration paid 1.826 euros per liter of diesel, while lower prices applied to locals. There were also limits on the amount of fuel — up to 10 liters in a canister and a maximum of 400 euros per one refueling.

Also, if you use delivery services, it is worth ordering in advance before fuel price increases affect their costs.
