The Slovak police prevented an attempt to set fire to the factory of the Ukrainian company Skyeton, which produces drones. The enterprise is located in eastern Slovakia, near Prešov. According to the police, the attack could have caused a large fire and endangered the lives of about 70 workers. The total value of the equipment at the factory is estimated at tens of millions of euros.
Details of the detention and suspects
The police detained three foreigners. Two of them — a citizen of Latvia and a citizen of Ukraine — were arrested in Slovakia, and the court has already placed them in custody. The third suspect, a 26-year-old citizen of Latvia, was detained in Hamburg, Germany, based on a European arrest warrant. Slovakia has already requested his extradition.
During searches, the suspects were found with a large amount of incendiary mixture resembling homemade napalm. Tools, mobile phones, a camera, and a handwritten plan of the factory were also found.
Possible "Russian trace"
The Slovak Minister of the Interior, Matúš Šutaj Eštok, stated that a "Russian trace" is not excluded in the case. The investigation assumes that the suspects acted on someone's instructions, but who exactly ordered the sabotage has not yet been disclosed.
Skyeton — this is a Ukrainian company that produces drones for civilian and military purposes. The company itself stated that this attack is "another proof that Ukrainian defense industry manufacturers have become a real thorn in the side of the Russians."
Slovakia is a member of NATO and the European Union and shares a border with Ukraine. This is one of the first known cases where an attempt was made in Slovakia to attack a military equipment manufacturing enterprise.
