If you or your relatives have a planned visit to the University Hospital Louisa Pasteura in Košice (Univerzitná nemocnica Louisa Pasteura, UNLP) in the coming days, check the zápis (entry/record) in advance: due to the fire, the operation of some departments is temporarily limited. Fortunately, there are no casualties — patients and staff were evacuated in time.
The fire report came on Monday, August 17, shortly before 1:00 PM. The monoblock of Univerzitná nemocnica Louisa Pasteura (UNLP) on Rastislavova Street — a complex that locals call stara nemocnica (old hospital) — was burning. According to the Regional Fire Rescue Corps, the fire started in the basement from the outside and later spread to the machine room.
Thirteen firefighters with six units of equipment arrived at the scene. They worked with autonomous breathing apparatus and thermal cameras. Together with the police and hospital staff, firefighters evacuated patients and employees from the first and second floors — the exact number of evacuees has not been officially announced. Preliminary data shows no deaths or injuries, reports TASR.
The cause of the fire is still being determined — a fire investigator has been sent to the scene. One version suggests that the smoke could have appeared during construction work carried out by an external contractor inside the building.
What this means practically: if you are being treated or have an appointment specifically in the monoblock on Rastislavova, call the hospital before your visit to check if your department is operating normally.
