Not all Ukrainians living in Slovakia are required to exchange their driver's license. The key factor is your residence status in the country. The rules differ significantly for people with temporary protection (dočasné útočisko) and those who have a residence permit (prechodný/trvalý pobyt).
For holders of temporary protection (dočasné útočisko)
If you are in Slovakia based on temporary protection (dočasné útočisko), you do not need to exchange your Ukrainian driver's license. According to the European Parliament regulation, you can freely use your national license throughout the entire period of protection. This rule applies across the EU.
For holders of a residence permit (prechodný/trvalý pobyt)
The situation is different for those who have obtained a temporary (prechodný pobyt) or permanent (trvalý pobyt) residence permit in Slovakia. For you, exchanging the license is mandatory. The law sets clear deadlines: you must submit documents for exchange within 60 days after your stay in the country exceeds 185 days from the moment you receive the residence permit.
