The Košice City Baths successfully wrapped up the summer season, which was marked not only by strong visitor numbers but also by significant weather fluctuations. Although July significantly dampened attendance figures, the overall results pleased both the municipality and the visitors themselves.
How the Weather Divided the Summer into Three Distinct Phases
The season in Košice came to a gradual close: while the popular Ryba Anička and the historic Červená hviezda (Red Star) locations ceased operations at the end of August, the Rumanová swimming area, after a brief extension, continued to welcome guests into early September.
According to Štefan Ferencz, deputy director for economics at the municipal enterprise Tepelné hospodárstvo (TEHO), the season unfolded like a roller coaster:
- June turned out to be extremely successful and set the bar high.
- July brought a prolonged cold snap and rain, forcing the company to close one of the city’s two main locations for 12 days.
- August completely turned the season around, attracting over 35,000 visitors to Chervona Zirka and Rumana without a single day of interruption in operations.
The second-best result in recent years
Thanks to a strong finish to the summer and infrastructure developments—such as the expansion of the green space at Rumánová and the upgrade of the ticketing systems—the overall statistics exceeded long-term averages. More details on how the Košice venues performed can be found in the official report on Košické zprávy.
The two main municipal venues—Rumanová and Červená hviezda—were visited by a total of 68,044 people. This is approximately 16% higher than the average figures for the period from 2020 to 2025, making this season the second most successful in the last six years.
Financial Results for Businesses
The economic situation, due to weather fluctuations, was also challenging, but the businesses managed to avoid losses. As Rastislav Földeš, manager of the Ryba Anička swimming pool, noted, the unpredictable weather in July forced them to spend nearly all the profits accumulated in June. However, August revenues fully covered operating expenses, and technical services quickly resolved minor malfunctions without prolonged downtime.
