The Tesco supermarket chain is launching a new fast delivery service Tesco Hneď (immediately) — orders are promised to be delivered to your home within an hour. The pilot project starts in Bratislava in October 2026. During October and November, the service will gradually appear in all regional centers and some large district towns in Slovakia.

What is Tesco Hneď?

The service will be useful when you need groceries or essential goods as quickly as possible. For example, if you suddenly run out of basic products, drinks, or hygiene items at home and have no time or desire to go to the store.

How does the existing Tesco delivery service work?

Currently, Tesco already has the online shopping service Tesco Online Nákupy (online shopping). It works in the usual way: you select products on the website or mobile app, add them to the cart, and specify a convenient delivery date and time. The assortment includes over 14,000 products, and delivery is available seven days a week.

There is also the Klikni+Vyzdvihni (Click+Pick up) service: you place an order online and pick it up at a designated pickup point. The delivery cost depends on the chosen time. For orders up to 30 euros, you have to pay an additional 3 euros.

Currently, about 4.64 million Slovaks can use the Tesco Online Nákupy (online shopping) service — more than 85% of the country's population.

The future of Tesco in Slovakia

The announcement of the launch came amid rumors of a possible sale of Tesco's business in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. According to Financial Times, the company is considering various strategic options for its Central European divisions, including a potential sale. In 2025, the European market brought Tesco 4.5 billion pounds sterling in revenue, but profitability fell due to increased competition and regulatory pressure in Slovakia.

Despite this, Tesco continues to invest and expand its network. At the end of the last financial year, the company had 182 stores, and after opening new locations in Bratislava, their number increased to 187. By sales volume, Tesco is among the top three retailers in Slovakia.
