The country’s main Christmas tree has been erected on Main Square (Hlavné námestie) in Bratislava, which means the Christmas markets will open soon. This year, it’s a 15-meter-tall white fir tree, donated to the city by a family from their property in the Záhorská Bystrica area.

The main Christmas market in the capital’s city center will open on Thursday, November 26, and run through January 3, 2027. The Christmas tree lights will be ceremonially lit the following day, November 27. There will be 74 stalls open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. The market will be closed for only two days—December 24 and 25—but will reopen on December 26. According to the Bratislava Cultural and Information Center (BKIS), this year, just like last year, the market will feature a special “Vianočný tip” offer. This means that vendors will offer select foods and drinks at a fixed, discounted price.

Cultural Program and Charity

In addition to food and drinks, a cultural program has been prepared for visitors. The main stage will be located on Franciscan Square (Františkánske námestie), where folk ensembles, local musicians, and DJs will perform from Thursday through Sunday.

Primatial Square (Primaciálne námestie) will once again feature the “Welcoming Zone” (Prívetivá zóna)—a safe and accessible space for those who find it difficult to be in crowds. Creative workshops for families with children will also be held here on weekends.

From November 26 through December 13, the same square will host the 10th anniversary “Christmas Forest” (Vianočný les). This exhibition features 42 Christmas trees, each hand-decorated by children from Bratislava schools. After the event concludes, according to the official website, all the trees will be donated to families and organizations that cannot afford to buy their own Christmas tree.
