An accident involving a passenger train and a city bus occurred at a railroad crossing on Ivanska Road in Bratislava. The incident, which took place on the stretch between the Bratislava-Nové Mesto and Podunajské Biskupice stations, caused major traffic congestion and resulted in one minor injury.
The incident occurred at 12:15 p.m. According to the transportation company and the railway, there was minor contact between passenger train Os 4314, operated by the private carrier Leo Express Slovensko, and the rear of the last car of bus route 63. An ambulance was immediately called to the scene, as one of the bus passengers sustained a minor injury as a result of the collision. The train’s passengers and crew were unharmed.
Leo Express spokesperson Emil Sedlarik reported that the collision occurred at a railroad crossing without automatic barriers but equipped with light signals. According to available data and photographs from the scene, the signals were functioning properly. The safety system is currently undergoing a thorough technical inspection, and the transportation police are continuing to investigate the exact causes and circumstances of the accident.
As a result of the collision, rail and road traffic were temporarily suspended on the affected sections. Bus route 63 was forced to take a detour via Rozhnyavska Street. However, the afternoon brought some good news as well—the Bratislava police reported that shortly after 3:00 p.m., the restrictions were lifted and traffic was fully restored.
