This is how the spokesperson of the regional police department in Košice Lenka Ivanová described the detainees. It concerns two citizens of Lithuania aged 34 and 35 — they were charged with robbing a store in one of the city's shopping centers.
The incident happened on Sunday, August 16, around 3:30 a.m. The men wearing masks broke the store's glass display with an axe, damaged the premises' equipment, and stole mobile phones. They did not have to run for long: within five minutes, patrol officers tracked the suspects. One was spotted near the shopping center during the escape — he actively resisted, so the police had to use forceful measures. The other was detained by employees of the Košice Juh (South Košice) police station a few meters further.
The stolen phones were found near the detention sites, and near the shopping center — a parked car that may be connected to the crime. Both men showed signs of drug intoxication, so biological samples were taken at the hospital to test for psychotropic substances. After that, both were placed in a pre-trial detention cell.
The investigator charged the detainees with theft and damage to another's property, committed jointly, and filed a motion to take them into custody. As reported by Korzár, the police are also checking whether this pair is involved in other property crimes in the Košice area. So the story may continue.
