Wizz Air under new rules may charge extra for a neck pillow (živnosť - trade license)

Travelers who are used to bringing a neck pillow (živnosť - trade license) into the airplane cabin may now face an unpleasant surprise. The airline Wizz Air has updated its rules, and now a neck pillow (živnosť - trade license), if it does not fit into the allowed carry-on luggage, may be considered as additional baggage, for which you will have to pay up to 65 euros.

Previously, many passengers simply hung the pillow around their neck or attached it to their backpack, considering it a personal item that is not included in the carry-on luggage restrictions. However, according to the new Wizz Air rules, neck pillows (živnosť - trade license) are not on the list of items that can be taken on board for free in addition to the main carry-on luggage. This means that the usual way of carrying it may lead to an extra fee right before boarding.

Why did the rules change?

Probably, the tightening of the rules is related to a popular life hack on social networks. Some travelers used covers from travel pillows (živnosť - trade license) as extra bags, stuffing them with clothes to save space in the main carry-on luggage. The airline wants to prevent such tricks, ensuring compliance with the established baggage rules.

How to avoid extra costs?

To avoid unexpected extra charges, Wizz Air passengers should consider a few important points:

  • Carry-on luggage size: The basic Wizz Air fare allows carrying only one small carry-on bag (for example, a backpack) sized up to 40x30x20 cm and weighing up to 10 kg, which must fit under the seat in front of you.
  • Pack the pillow: The safest option is to make sure the neck pillow (živnosť - trade license) fits completely inside your allowed carry-on luggage. If it is carried separately and does not meet the requirements, it may be considered an additional item.
  • WIZZ Priority: If you purchased the WIZZ Priority service, you have the right to bring an additional carry-on bag sized up to 55x40x23 cm and weighing up to 10 kg, which is placed on the overhead shelf. In this case, you will have more space for the pillow.

Remember that the extra charge for additional or oversized baggage can range from 55 to 65 euros. The price depends on the specific violation and may be much higher than the cost of the pillow. Always check the current baggage rules on the airline's website before traveling to avoid unpleasant surprises.
