If you plan a morning train trip from Bratislava to Vienna in the coming days, get ready for schedule changes. Due to construction work on the Austrian railway, traffic will be temporarily closed on the Bratislava-Petržalka (Petržalka district of Bratislava) – Kittsee – Parndorf section. This will affect passengers from Monday, September 14, to Friday, September 18, 2026.
Restrictions will apply daily approximately from 7:50 AM to 12:30 PM. During this time, the Slovak Rail Company (ZSSK) will replace some regional REX trains with buses. If you want to avoid transfers, the national carrier advises using direct trains via Marchegg, where restrictions do not apply.
Changes on the way to Vienna and earlier departures
On the route from Bratislava-Petržalka (Petržalka district of Bratislava) to the Austrian capital, restrictions will affect REX trains 7720, 7724, 7728, and 7732. Between Petržalka and Parndorf, buses will replace them, and passengers will transfer to the next train in Parndorf.
ZSSK spokesperson Jan Baček pointed out an important detail for passengers:
- Earlier departure: Instead of trains, buses from Bratislava-Petržalka will depart 41 minutes earlier than the original train schedule — always at the 35th minute of the hour.
- So arrive at the station early because usual transfers will not wait.
What the return from Vienna will look like
In the opposite direction to Bratislava, restrictions will affect REX trains 7713, 7717, 7721, 7725, and 7729. Passengers will get off the train at Parndorf station, from where a bus will take them to Bratislava-Petržalka. Their planned arrival in the Slovak capital is always set for the 23rd minute of the hour.
ZSSK reminds that buses in Austria will serve all stops according to a special schedule. Pay attention to the towns of Gattendorf and Neudorf, where bus stops are not located directly at the railway stations.
What else not to forget before the trip
- No bicycles: Bicycles cannot be transported on buses replacing trains.
- Accessibility: Barrier-free access may not be provided at Parndorf station, as platforms No. 2 and 3 are accessible only by stairs.
- Before the trip, check the current connection via the ZSSK website or the IDeme vlakom app to avoid problems.
