In short

There are 13 Cudzinecká polícia (Foreigners Police) departments in Slovakia plus a remote workplace in Snina for temporary protection. They accept visitors on working days from 7:30: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday until 15:30, Tuesday until 15:00 (visas), Thursday until 14:00 (visas and temporary protection). The department determines the district of residence, but an application for new residence can be submitted in any city. Bratislava has been operating at Račianska 62 since spring 2026 — the old address in Vajnory is no longer valid.

There are 13 Cudzinecká polícia (Foreigners Police) departments in Slovakia and one remote workplace in Snina. They accept visitors on working days from 7:30; the longest days are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday until 15:30. The Bratislava department has been located at Račianska 62 since spring 2026. Yet half of the directories still lead to the old address in searches.

How many Cudzinecká polícia (Foreigners Police) departments are in Slovakia and where are they?

There is a department in each kraj (region): 13 independent ones plus a remote workplace in Snina. Cudzinecká polícia — officially oddelenie cudzineckej polície, commonly called migration police, both names mean the same authority. Addresses and phone numbers were taken from the contact page of border and migration police of the Slovak Ministry of Interior on August 5, 2026. All numbers belong to the internal police network and start with +421 961. In the Dunajská Streda and Nitra departments, the Ministry of Interior separately marks the client line: +421 961 113 207 and +421 961 573 216.

Found your city? Next, you need a zápis (appointment), and there is a separate guide on how to get an appointment.

only temporary protection

The workload is unevenly distributed. The Bratislava department processes about 25,000 applications per year. As of August 2, 2026, 149,120 people had valid temporary protection, and 47,054 of them were in the Bratislava region.

Where to go — by place of residence or any department?

It depends on what exactly you are submitting. The Ministry of Interior divides life situations into two groups, and this boundary saves people hundreds of kilometers.

You can make an appointment at any department if you:

  • submit an application for temporary residence (prechodný pobyt) or change its purpose;

  • apply for permanent residence for five years;

  • apply for a national visa;

  • register the residence of an EU citizen or their family member or order a residence document for them;

  • apply for tolerated residence (tolerovaný pobyt) or a document for a person requesting temporary asylum.

Only at your own department, by place of residence, will you be accepted when you:

  • extend temporary residence;

  • apply for long-term or permanent residence for an unlimited time;

  • order the production of a residence card (except for EU citizens and their family members);

  • submit an application for invitation verification.

The difference is not cosmetic. There may be no appointments in your city for weeks, but 100 kilometers away they are free — and you can go there to submit a new application. For extension — no. If you have not yet decided what exactly you are submitting, start with the analysis of types of residence.

Moving within Slovakia also changes your “own” department. Third-country nationals must notify the police and apply for a new card within five working days, EU citizens and their family members within ten.

When do departments accept visitors and why might they turn you away on Tuesday?

The schedule is the same for all migration police departments:

  • Monday 7:30–15:30;

  • Tuesday 7:30–15:00 — national visas and their extensions;

  • Wednesday 7:30–15:30;

  • Thursday 7:30–14:00 — visas plus temporary protection (dočasné útočisko): registration and application for document issuance;

  • Friday 7:30–15:30.

Tuesday and Thursday are narrow days. Came on Thursday for a residence card, not temporary protection? They will turn you away, and this is not the arbitrariness of a particular officer. General reception days for other matters are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

What does the Snina department do and who needs it?

The workplace in Snina has been operating since January 2, 2026, and is subordinate to the Michalovce department. There are ten police officers and a narrow agenda: registration of temporary protection, applications for document issuance, and exchange of paper confirmations for plastic cards. They do not accept residence or visa applications here.

The Snina schedule is different: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday 08:00–15:00, Wednesday 09:00–17:00, Friday 08:00–14:00. You can only make an appointment five days in advance, and in the reservation system, you first select “OCP PZ Michalovce,” then “pracovisko Snina” — there is no separate “Snina” line in the list of departments.

Who finds this convenient: residents of Snina, Humenné, and Medzilaborce districts who previously traveled to Michalovce. Those transitioning from temporary protection to residence should first read the new appointment rules — effective from July 15, 2026.

What can be done without an appointment and what only by reservation?

Departments differ here, and this is where people lose a day of travel.

Bratislava. There is no live queue at all. At this department, no action can be done without the reservation system: a separate position “Informácie a podateľňa” was created for document pickup and paper submission, and “Biosnímanie” for biometric data collection. You cannot just come “to ask.” How the system reached this state is explained in the article about what is happening with reservations.

Other departments. You can pick up a ready card, submit additional documents to an application, collect a certified invitation, provide biometric data, get consultation — all on reception days, in a live queue. With two caveats: only Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and only while the department’s daily capacity lasts. Come before opening. In Snina, this is not possible: they accept only by appointment.

One action works everywhere and without an appointment: a written request to check the status of your case can be brought in person or sent by mail. The police officer handling your case must contact you.

Who to call and write to if there are no appointments?

The shortest way is to call your department from the table above. The general line of the Slovak Ministry of Interior works at 0800 222 222: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:00 to 16:00, Wednesday until 17:00. Other useful numbers are collected on our phone directory page.

A justified case (health condition, old age, under 18, etc.) gives grounds to request an appointment outside the reservation system. The request goes to the email of the regional directorate, and the address depends on your department:

The letter should include your first and last name, citizenship, travel document number, type and purpose of residence, reason for the request, and supporting documents. The application is evaluated at your place of residence. If approved, they will send a letter with the place, date, and time.

These requests are reviewed by regional directorates of border and migration police: Račianska 62 in Bratislava, Sládkovičova 4343/25 in Banská Bystrica, Jarková 31 in Prešov, and Štefánikova 10 in Sobrance. Above them is the main office at Ružinovská 1/B in Bratislava.

And separately, because it is often confused: migration police do not handle asylum (azyl) cases — there is a separate department for that at Nemocničná 1 in Humenné.

What to bring and how not to go to the old address?

The minimum set for any visit: foreign passport, printed and filled application, originals and copies of documents related to the case, reservation PIN code, and bank card.

The card is needed for fees — paid by electronic stamps eKolok. You can buy them at a payment kiosk right in the department, where the receipt is valid for 30 days, online, in the app with a QR code, or in some Slovenská pošta branches, where the receipt is valid for two years.

You must plan ahead because of the validity period of the residence card. The application for a new one must be submitted at least 30 days before the old one expires. The fee for production and delivery is €10 in the regular mode up to 30 days or €39 if the document is needed within two working days. For electronic submission, the same services cost €5 and €19.50.

The Bratislava department moved from the Vajnory city district, from Regrútska 4 street, to Račianska in spring 2026, and the new premises were officially opened on June 15 after the first month of operation. Nearby are a tram line, Bratislava-Vinohrady railway station, and Rača park-and-ride parking.

The problem is that the internet still does not notice this. Search results for migration police addresses show Hrobákova 44 and Regrútska 4 for Bratislava, Športová 10 for Trnava, Kalvárska 2 and Akademická 4 for Nitra, Bitúnková 8 for Nové Zámky. Akademická is a trace of the temporary move in 2024, which ended the same year. The organization’s Google card also shows the old Regrútska 4.

There is a reliable way to check. After booking, the Ministry of Interior asks to keep four things: PIN code, date and time of reservation, its validity period, and the address of the department where you are booked. Read this address before you leave. The second reference is the official Ministry of Interior contact page linked at the beginning of the text.

The evening before the visit, open the reservation email and compare the address with the table above. Two minutes — and you won’t travel half the country to an empty building.

Frequently asked questions

Can I submit documents not in the city where I live?+
Yes, but not always. You can make an appointment at any department in the country for submitting an application for temporary residence, changing its purpose, permanent residence for five years, national visa, and EU citizen registration. For extension of residence, long-term residence, and card production — only at your own department by place of residence.
What is the current address of the Cudzinecká polícia (Foreigners Police) in Bratislava?+
Račianska 62, 812 72 Bratislava. The department moved here from the Vajnory city district, from Regrútska 4 street, in spring 2026, and the official opening of the new premises was on June 15, 2026. Directories and the organization’s Google card still show the old address, so check with the reservation email or the Ministry of Interior contact page.
I live in Humenné — where should I go?+
The Humenné district is served by the Michalovce department at Jána Hollého 53/46 street. If your case concerns temporary protection — registration, document, exchange of paper confirmation for a card — the workplace in Snina at Partizánska 1057/21, subordinate to the same department, is closer.
Will they let me pick up a ready card without an appointment?+
Outside Bratislava — yes, on reception days: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, in a live queue and while the department’s daily capacity lasts, so come before opening at 7:30. In Bratislava, no action is done without a reservation: a separate position “Informácie a podateľňa” was created in the reservation system for document pickup. In Snina, they accept only by appointment.
What to do if I cannot wait for a free appointment due to health?+
Health condition, old age, and under 18 are examples of grounds to request reception outside the reservation system. A letter with name, citizenship, passport number, type and purpose of residence, and supporting documents is sent to the email of your regional directorate: [email protected], [email protected], or [email protected].
