Moving, marriage, new passport? You must inform the police

1. Book an appointment at the Alien Police office in the town where you now live

(using the online booking system, select Doklady / Pasy → Žiadosť o vydanie dokladu o pobyte).

2. Come in person with the following documents:

— completed application form, — valid passport, — proof of new accommodation (rental agreement, čestné vyhlásenie, hotel confirmation, etc.), — pay the fee: €10 (standard issue) or €39 (urgent). ⚠️ All accommodation documents must be no older than 90 days, and signatures must be notarized. If you do not report the change on time, you risk a fine of €50 or more.

Important: If you have a temporary residence permit, you must live in Slovakia for more than half of its term per calendar year (e.g., if your residence permit is for 1 year, at least 6 months). The exception is if you are working in another EU country under a mobility program. If you do not follow this, your residence permit may be canceled, so plan your time!

What changes must be reported to the police

— Change of first or last name;

— New passport;

— Marriage or divorce;

— Loss of residence card;

— Termination of work or studies (if the residence permit was issued for this purpose);

— End of the purpose of residence (within 3 days);

— Leaving Slovakia for 180+ days (if you have a residence permit);

— Change of residence (within 5 days);

— Staying outside your registered address for 30+ days;

— Changes in personal data (name, citizenship, passport) within 5 days;

— Loss, theft, or damage of passport/residence card (within 5 days);

— Need for a new residence card (within 5 days);
