Hit-and-run driver on Bajkalská: Ukrainian man behind the wheel despite a ban and with drugs 🚨
In Bratislava, on one of the city’s busiest thoroughfares, Bajkalská Street, a police patrol stopped a Škoda Octavia. What began as a routine check quickly turned into an escape attempt and the discovery of a whole host of serious offenses committed by a 35-year-old Ukrainian citizen.
The incident occurred early in the morning on September 22, when the driver, instead of complying with the police’s orders, decided to flee on foot. However, a police officer quickly caught up with him and used force to apprehend him. As the check revealed, the man had a valid driving ban that remained in effect until 2031.
During subsequent legal proceedings, the driver admitted to using and possessing narcotics. He voluntarily handed over to the police a package in which methamphetamine was later found. The man refused to undergo a toxicological examination. Slovakia has a zero-tolerance policy toward alcohol and drugs while driving, and driving under the influence of illegal substances is a criminal offense that can result in substantial fines, lengthy license suspensions, and even imprisonment. Illegal possession of drugs for personal use is also punishable by imprisonment for up to five years, depending on the amount of the substance.
Currently, the man faces charges under three articles: illegal possession of a narcotic substance, obstruction of an official decision, and driving under the influence of narcotics. The police are continuing to carry out the necessary procedural actions.
