As part of European Week of Sport, Bratislava has opened the doors to its sports facilities, which are managed by the organization STaRZ (Správa telovýchovných a rekreačných zariadení). Until September 30, anyone interested can visit the city’s swimming pools and ice rinks for free. City Hall spokesperson Peter Bubla noted that the goal of the initiative is to encourage residents to lead an active lifestyle and combat a sedentary lifestyle.
The rules and schedule for free visits vary depending on the specific facility. If you plan to use public transportation or go swimming, be sure to take into account the specific time limits set by the city.
Where and How to Swim for Free
The main venue for the event is the PASIENKY MUNICIPAL SWIMMING POOL (Mestská plaváreň Pasienky), which features 50-meter and 25-meter pools.
- Free admission is available from September 23 to 29.
- Each visitor can stay in the water for the first 60 minutes free of charge.
- If you stay longer, you’ll have to pay for the extra time according to the standard city rate.

Winter Arenas and Free Ice Skating
Winter sports enthusiasts can take to the ice during public skating sessions. Two municipal ice rinks are offering free skating hours:
- Tipos Aréna – O. Nepelu Winter Stadium: free admission to the ice is available on September 26 (from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.) and September 27 (from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.). On Sunday, the session will be complemented by exhibition practices by the HC Slovan Bratislava youth and junior hockey teams.
- Harmincova Winter Stadium: public skating sessions will take place on the evenings of September 26 and 27 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Coaches from the HOBA Bratislava club will be on the ice to help beginners master the basics of ice skating.
City officials also remind residents of ongoing free opportunities for active outdoor recreation—such as the CVIČKO network of workout areas or the popular Pump Park skatepark on Haanova Street. Details regarding the event schedule can be found in the city hall’s original announcement.
