In eastern Slovakia, a single ticket for public transport will be introduced

From September 1, 2026, for traveling in eastern Slovakia, you will need only one ticket. The railway company (Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko, ZSSK) joins the integrated transport system IDS Východ (Integrated Transport System East). This will allow you to use one ticket for buses and trains in the Košice and Prešov regions, without buying separate tickets for each type of transport.

What changes for passengers

The main change for you is a single tariff system. The territory of the Košice and Prešov regions is divided into tariff zones. The cost of the trip will depend on how many zones you cross, as well as the type and validity period of your ticket.

In eastern Slovakia, a single ticket for public transport will be introduced

With IDS Východ tickets, you will be able to travel in 2nd class on ZSSK trains on regional lines and on certain sections of long-distance trains. These routes include:

  • Košice – Štrba (line R10): trains Ex 502, 505, 525, 526 (on the Košice – Poprad-Tatry section); Ex 600, 603, 604, 606–624, 627–629, 631, 640–643 (on the Košice – Štrba section); R 680, 681 (on the Košice – Poprad-Tatry section); EN 442 (on the Košice – Poprad-Tatry section).

  • Košice – Humenné (line R14): trains R 680, 681 (on the Košice – Humenné section); EN 442, 443 (on the Košice – Humenné section).

  • Poprad-Tatry – Plaveč (line R80): trains REX 8360, 8361, 8362, 8363 (on the Poprad-Tatry – Plaveč section).

  • Košice – Tornaľa (line R66): trains R 910–925 (on the Košice – Tornaľa section); R 926, 927 (on the Košice – Plešivec section).

Where to buy tickets

At first, ZSSK will not sell IDS Východ tickets at its ticket offices or online. You will need to buy them through the sales channels of IDS Východ or from other carriers who are already part of the system. Both single and subscription tickets (for 1, 30, 90, 180, or 365 days) are available.

At the same time, tickets you bought under ZSSK rules (Prepravný poriadok ZSSK) will remain valid on trains.

This is not the only change in the country — the integration of public transport continues throughout Slovakia. For example, from the same date, September 1, 2026, the single ticket IDS PLUS will start to operate on some high-speed and express ZSSK trains in the Žilina and Trenčín regions.
