This event shook the capital's residents because the closing of one of the oldest locations ended an entire era for several generations of city dwellers.
The end of an era near the shopping center
The fast food restaurant near the OC Danubia shopping center on Panónska cesta street welcomed its last visitors on September 15, 2026, exactly at 10:00 PM. This was a surprise for many fans of the chain, as closing operating restaurants of this level in Slovakia happens very rarely.
Despite the common belief that such places close due to lack of customers, on the closing day huge lines formed at the cash registers. Hundreds of residents came here one last time to say goodbye to their favorite place and remember their youth.
What made this place special
Opened in June 2000, this location was the sixth restaurant of the chain in Bratislava, but the first one directly in Petržalka (a district of Bratislava). The main feature of the place remained its authentic interior in the style of the 2000s, which was not subjected to large modern renovations.
Here, many familiar decor elements, classic counters, and the atmosphere of past decades were preserved, sharply contrasting with digitalized modern restaurants equipped with electronic self-service kiosks. Where residents should go now
The closing of the favorite spot does not mean that the district will have to completely do without beloved treats. According to the Bratislava media portal, the nearest full alternative operates very close — at Panónska cesta 27, near the OC Galéria Petržalka shopping center.
There, customers can use the usual service, try new menu items, and modern ordering technologies, although the cozy atmosphere of the “good old McDonald's” near Danubia will remain only in memories.
