Many people think that old chemicals, broken equipment, or used batteries can be thrown away with regular trash. But this is not true: hazardous waste contains substances that threaten health and the environment, so they must be disposed of specially. Fortunately, in Bratislava, mobile collections are regularly organized, allowing residents to safely and conveniently get rid of such items.

This fall, on October 24, 2026, residents of the Devín district will have this opportunity. The mobile hazardous waste collection point will operate from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM near the fire station yard on Hradná ulica. This event is organized by the company OLO together with the city to ensure proper disposal of harmful substances.

What can be brought to the mobile collection?

The mobile collection accepts only identified household waste from individuals (not from companies or entrepreneurs). It is important that the waste is in original or clearly labeled, closed, and undamaged packaging. Mixing liquid substances is prohibited. The maximum amount of liquid hazardous substances that can be brought is 5 kg per person.

The list of accepted waste includes:

  • Hazardous liquids and chemicals: solvents, chemicals, oils and fats (including motor oils, windshield washer fluids), pesticides, photographic chemicals, acids, alkalis, detergents, paints, varnishes, adhesives.
  • Batteries and accumulators: lead-acid (car batteries), nickel-cadmium (NiCd), alkaline (Zn), nickel-metal hydride (NiMH).
  • Electrical appliances: fluorescent lamps (undamaged), other mercury-containing waste (undamaged and in strong packaging), decommissioned devices containing chlorofluorocarbons (old refrigerators, freezers), as well as other electrical and electronic devices (computers, TVs, monitors, irons, washing machines, mixers).

What will not be accepted?

It is important to know that some types of waste are not accepted at the mobile collection. Specifically, this applies to lithium batteries (Li-o, Li-Pol, Li-ion) used in power tools, mobile phones, laptops, bicycles, scooters, as well as button batteries and batteries from electronic cigarettes. Electrical and electronic devices are accepted only in assembled condition. Waste cannot be brought in large containers such as barrels or big canisters.

Alternative disposal options

If you cannot make it to the mobile collection or need to dispose of hazardous waste at another time, residents of Bratislava can bring them free of charge all year round to Zberný dvor OLO Ružinov (OLO waste collection point in Ružinov) at Stará Ivanská cesta 2. It operates Monday to Saturday from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Proper disposal of hazardous waste is your contribution to preserving the cleanliness of the environment and the health of Slovakia’s residents.

More information about the collection schedule and rules can be found on the official OLO website. Details about the specific event in Devín are available on the district’s website.
