A morning call from the courier or a notification on the phone in the coming weeks will save owners of family houses in Bratislava (Bratislava city) from the need to look for or ask for bags for sorting themselves. The city company OLO (Odvoz a likvidácia odpadu - Waste Collection and Disposal) is radically changing the way blue and yellow bags are distributed.
Previously, sets had to be waited for through city districts or schedules for distribution had to be found out independently, but now they will be delivered by a courier service. The large-scale changes started on September 17 and will continue until the end of October 2026. The municipal company says that the new format was successfully tested last year on thousands of households in Ružinov (Ružinov district), and now the convenient service is being expanded to the entire capital.
How the delivery will take place and what is inside the set
The process is organized so that residents do not have to make any effort or submit special applications. Delivery is carried out on working days directly throughout Bratislava (Bratislava city) simultaneously, not gradually by individual districts.
- First, the company OLO (Odvoz a likvidácia odpadu - Waste Collection and Disposal) will send residents an informational SMS message.
- Later, the courier service Slovak Parcel Service will inform about the exact delivery date by email or SMS.
- If the courier does not find you at home, the package will be left at the nearest pick-up point or in a parcel locker, sending the address and number for pickup. Anyone from the family members can receive the package.
Each set is designed to meet the needs of a household for the next 12 months. In the branded box, residents will find two rolls of blue bags for paper (10 pieces in each roll), two rolls of yellow bags for plastic, metal packaging, and cardboard boxes from drinks (15 pieces in a roll), as well as a useful informational booklet with the rules for proper waste sorting.
Main conditions and rules for residents
The innovation concerns only logistics and convenience of distribution. The waste collection system itself remains unchanged:
- the schedule and days of waste removal are not adjusted;
- collection intervals and current sorting rules remain the same;
- free address delivery applies only to houses officially involved in the current system of vrecového zberu (bag collection system).
If over time the bags run out before the planned period or there is a need for additional volumes, they can be obtained during working hours at the OLO (Odvoz a likvidácia odpadu - Waste Collection and Disposal) customer center on Ivanská cesta 22.
