Data published by the Attorney General Maroš Žilinka (Attorney General) show a stable and significant decrease in the overall crime statistics committed by foreigners. The good news for the general security situation in the country is that the number of not only prosecuted but also accused and convicted foreigners is decreasing.
What specific numbers does the prosecutor's office provide
The published data compare the dynamics over the last three years and demonstrate a positive trend in all monitored categories. The decrease is especially noticeable compared to 2023.
- Prosecuted persons: In 2025, 1,152 foreigners were prosecuted, which is a decrease of 13.25% compared to 2024 (1,328 persons) and 23.2% compared to 2023 (1,500 persons).
- Accused persons: Courts accused 907 foreigners. Compared to 2024 (1,072 persons), this is a decrease of 15.39%, and compared to 2023 (1,287 persons), almost 30%.
- Convicted persons: A total of 764 foreigners were convicted, which compared to 2024 (959 persons) means a decrease of 20.33%, and compared to 2023 (1,115 persons), a decrease of over 31%.
What were the most common offenses and where did the criminals come from
Statistics show that the most common type of illegal actions by foreigners in Slovakia was driving a vehicle under the influence. In this category, authorities recorded 345 cases, most often related to traffic violations and driving under the influence of alcohol.
In terms of citizenship, citizens of neighboring countries have long been at the top of the ranking, closely related to their generally largest number in Slovakia. Detailed statistics were published by Info.sk in cooperation with the TASR information agency:
- Ukraine: 382 persons
- Czech Republic: 161 persons
- Hungary: 113 persons
- Poland: 76 persons
Thus, foreign citizens in Slovakia, despite various myths and fears in society, do not pose a growing security threat, and the overall crime rates in this population group have been decreasing for the second year in a row.
