Series of Traffic Accidents in the Bratislava Region: A 54-Year-Old Driver Was Reparking His Car When He First Crashed Into an Octavia and Then Knocked Down a Road Sign
A breathalyzer test revealed a shocking blood alcohol level of 2.81 per mille following a botched maneuver on Bojnická Street in Bratislava. This was just one of several serious cases of reckless driving that police investigated over the weekend. Such incidents on Slovak roads result not only in the drivers’ immediate arrest but also in detention in a holding cell and criminal prosecution.
Two cars and a destroyed traffic sign in broad daylight
The incident occurred on Saturday, September 12, 2026, in the afternoon. The traffic police received a report of damage to several vehicles on Bojnická Street. Shortly after 3:00 p.m., a patrol determined that a 54-year-old man had been asked by a company employee to move his Seat because it was obstructing traffic.
However, this simple maneuver turned into a series of collisions:
- The first collision involved the Seat. As the driver pulled away, he crashed into a parked Škoda Octavia.
- He switched to another car. Instead of stopping, he got out, got into a waiting Škoda Fabia, and continued driving.
- Collision with a traffic sign. Driving the second car, he headed straight into a traffic sign, which he completely destroyed.
The police, who were called to the scene, administered a breathalyzer test to the driver, which showed a blood alcohol content of 2.81 per mille. The man was detained, taken to the police station, and once he had sobered up, legal proceedings were initiated. An authorized officer from the Traffic Accident Department in Bratislava initiated criminal proceedings for the offense of driving a vehicle while intoxicated.
Record Numbers and Accidents Across the Region
Weekend checkpoints revealed several other instances where intoxicated drivers endangered themselves and others.
On Trnava Road in Senec, a driver was stopped with a blood alcohol concentration of 1.69 promille (0.81 milligrams of alcohol per liter of exhaled air), and he is also facing criminal charges. In the village of Kostolishte on Main Street, the driver of a Peugeot Boxer commercial vehicle was involved in an accident. He veered into the oncoming lane, where he successively crashed into a tree, a concrete bridge, and an electric pole; a blood test revealed 1.39 grams of alcohol per kilogram of blood.
Other police interventions in Bratislava and the surrounding area
Patrols also dealt with drunk driving incidents in other locations:
- Aisnerova Street: A driver failed to adjust his speed to road conditions and crashed into a concrete wall. With a breathalyzer reading of 0.83 mg/L, he sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital.
- Rozhnyavska Street: A second breathalyzer test here showed the driver’s alcohol level had risen from 0.94 to 1.04 milligrams per liter of exhaled air.
- Kadnarova Street: A driver of a Sinohon two-wheeled motor vehicle was pulled over with a reading of 0.53 mg/L.
- Rovinka: On Main Street, a female driver initially registered 0.64 mg/L, and her second test result rose to 0.74 milligrams per liter.
According to official police statistics, police in the Bratislava Region have already recorded 1,026 traffic accidents since the beginning of the year, with alcohol consumption confirmed in 73 cases. Law enforcement officials remind the public that even a short drive under the influence of alcohol sharply reduces attention, slows reaction time, and can result in serious property damage or tragedy.
