If you're in Košice, keep an eye on the weather at the start of the week—strong winds are expected.
The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (Slovenský hydrometeorologický ústav, SHMÚ) has issued a Level 1 warning for the city and its surroundings. It will be in effect from 2:00 a.m. on Monday, November 2, until the end of the day. Wind gusts are forecast to reach 65–85 km/h.
Although such wind speeds are typical for this time of year, they pose a danger to people and may cause minor damage. Strong gusts can cause branches to fall, damage lightweight structures, and make driving conditions difficult.
How to Protect Yourself and Your Property
- At home and in the yard. Remove anything from balconies, patios, and yards that could be blown away by the wind: patio furniture, potted plants, and tools. If you can’t remove them, secure them firmly. Close windows and doors tightly.
- For drivers: Be as careful as possible while driving. Slow down and keep both hands on the steering wheel. Be prepared for sudden gusts, especially in open areas, on bridges, and near tall buildings or trucks. Do not park your car under old trees.
- For pedestrians: Stay away from trees, billboards, and power lines. It’s best to postpone walks in parks or the woods until the weather improves.
Check the official SHMÚ website for updates on weather warnings.
