106 complaints and reports have been filed in Bratislava’s Dubravka neighborhood, where residents have been breathing in a strong, pungent odor for several days now—an odor spreading from Saratovska Street all the way to Homolova Street. Local residents have reported on social media that the unpleasant odor resembles the smell of marijuana or gas, which has caused concern among people in the neighborhood.
As a result, the Dubravka local government contacted state authorities and, in cooperation with the state police, investigated the source of this air pollution.
Where Does the Odor Come From?
Since the city district lacks the necessary technical equipment or legal authority to conduct its own air quality measurements, the investigation was carried out in cooperation with other agencies.
According to the local government, the unpleasant odor is coming from a facility located in the Technical Glass industrial zone. This company processes essences and aromatic substances for the food and cosmetics industries. Due to weather conditions, the strong odor is spreading rapidly to nearby residential areas.
What the City Council Will Do
The city district notes that the issue of small sources of air pollution, which includes this facility, is officially on the capital city’s radar.
Official Statement: The local government of Dubravka plans to submit an official request to the Bratislava City Council in the coming days.
Inspection of the facility: The local government will request that the capital city conduct a thorough inspection of the facility in the area.
Seeking solutions: The goal is to find a way to compel the facility to rectify the situation and eliminate—or at least significantly reduce—the odor in the residential area.
